Does your website spin… and spin… and spin, until the browser finally gives up and says “ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT”?
This means your server is trying to load the page, but it’s taking longer than allowed. It’s “exhausted.” This is common on shared hosting when a plugin is heavy or traffic is high.

Solution 1: Increase Max Execution Time
By default, servers give scripts 30 seconds to load. Let’s double that.
- Connect via FTP.
- Open the .htaccess file.
- Add this code at the bottom:
php_value max_execution_time 300
- This gives the site 300 seconds (5 minutes) to process requests.
Solution 2: Increase Memory Limit in PHP.ini
If the .htaccess method doesn’t work, try a php.ini file.
- Create a file named php.ini in your root folder.
- Add: max_execution_time = 300.
- Save and upload.
Solution 3: Deactivate Heavy Plugins
If you recently installed a backup plugin or a large image optimizer, it might be hogging resources. Deactivate it via FTP to see if the speed returns.
Conclusion
A timed-out connection is a performance issue. Increasing your server limits is the quick fix, but for a long-term solution, consider upgrading your hosting plan if this happens often.
